Degas Ballerina
The Little Fourteen-Year-Old Dancer, was a sculpture created by Edgar Degas and was unveiled at the Sixth Impressionist Exhibit held in Paris in 1881.? The model for Degas’s creation was a girl named Marie Van Goethem who was born June 7th, 1865.? Marie was a student at the Ecole de Danse in Paris and by 1880 she was engaged as a dancer at the Opera.? There are an unusual number of sketches of the model in charcoal and pastel.
Our reproduction of this world wide, famous sculpture is great for the dance or ballet art collector or for just about anyone who enjoys Ballet.? She is made using the ancient art of lost wax casting, like the original and is a labor intensive process.? She is 38 inches tall, and would look great on a desk, book case or just about anywhere you would like.? This sculpture will last for a very, very long time as they still dig up bronze sculptures from the Roman era.
